Physical Fitness
Childhood obesity rates are climbing, and more and more children are spending an exorbitant amount of time in front of the television, playing video games and using a computer. Even among more active children, martial arts is a very attractive option because it is an excellent source of exercise that also teaches skills. Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai can help improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance, strength and overall energy levels.
Confidence
We acclimate kids to an active, healthy lifestyle, and build the character, self-esteem and interpersonal skills necessary for peaceful conflict resolution while stressing the importance of safety and cleanliness. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu differs from Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo and other martial arts because of its emphasis on grappling, instead of punches and kicks. Our program teaches children basic striking techniques, but we also ensure that each child learns what to do on the ground by covering takedowns, reversals, sweeps, escapes, submissions and self-defense. Since these techniques rely on leverage and not size or strength, a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner has the confidence of one able to defeat much larger and stronger opponents.
Discipline
Many parents turn to the mixed martial arts when their children are acting out in school and at home. Kids MMA can be linked to improvements in attention span, respect, demeanor and self control. Our instructors have excellent methods of communicating with children, are firm but friendly, and most importantly, are very consistent. The positive environment that we provide coupled with the inherent sense of structure and discipline found in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu will go a long way toward correcting or preventing behavioral issues.
Character
Our Kids MMA program is designed to instill in your children positive character traits such as self control, patience, confidence and courage. The idea with these classes and this motivation is to reinforce what is already being taught at home. Providing your children with an encouraging environment will help them grow into well-rounded adults and empower them to more effectively handle problems and build relationships for the rest of their lives.
Our facilities have a quality cardiovascular selection of LifeFitness treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and stair machines. A cardio theater is available in the cardiovascular areas which allows members to listen to their television of choice while exercising. The fitness clubs also feature an extensive selection of LifeFitness & Nautilus strength equipment, barbell/dumbbell areas, free weights and cable machines. Areas are also devoted to flexibility and abdominal activities.
Who uses a personal trainer?
The role of the personal trainer is changing. It used to be that celebrities and wealthy individuals were the only people that used personal trainers. The stereotype of a personal trainer used to be that of a big body builder. Today the personal trainer is a highly skilled professional that has been educated and certified to work with various types of clients. Children as young as 7 years old, 80 year old men and women, obese adults, athletes, cancer recovery patients, and adults with diseases all benefit from working with personal trainers. Clients are using personal trainers for: fat loss, weight gain, flexibility, improve posture, alleviate stress, increase energy, rehab an injury, and improve quickness, general health benefits.
What exactly does a personal trainer do?
At Xtreme Couture, our personal trainers are highly skilled and nationally certified, and have many roles when working with clients. Your personal trainer will serve as a coach, teacher and motivator. It is the personal trainer's job to assess your current physical and mental state, establish very specific goals, design an individualized program, and do what ever it takes to keep you on track towards getting results.
Can I workout every day?
You can, however your body needs rest. Remember, when you strength train, your muscles grow when you are at home, resting. It is recommended, if you are new to exercise to start twice a week at 20 minutes at a time, gradually increasing the time to 3 times a week at no more than 45 minutes. Generally, 4 times a week is sufficient to gain muscle strength.
How long does it take see results?
You may begin to see results in the first 4-8 weeks. This depends in large part to your nutrition. You can work out as hard as you'd like. If you do not eat right, you will not get far.
I only eat when I have time, and I'm not seeing good results, even though I eat clean?
Your body's metabolism increases each time you eat! Your metabolic rate will increase with each meal. When you don't eat, your metabolism slows down because it has nothing to do! You are not feeding your body. If you eat every 3-4 hours, not only are you keeping your blood sugar even, avoiding crashing, you are constantly spiking your metabolism!
Can't I just do cardio and lose fat?
This is dangerous because too much cardio can eat away at muscle tissue, not good! Cardio is great for your heart and overall well being. However, to maximize your calorie burning, you need muscle! Muscle is the furnace that burns body fat, continuously! So if you enjoy cardio, that's fine, just don't overdo it, and for that matter, don't over do anything!
